Artist Daniel Garringer has a connection to an earthy rural lifestyle that has been a consistent influence on his artistic style. His paintings and drawings often depict themes that are based on his strong belief in absolutes and shared common experiences. Images are often manipulated in hopes that the viewer will be drawn into the image long enough to realize the underlying theme(s) expressed within each piece.
Born in Nebraska City, Garringer has been a lifelong resident of Nebraska. He attended Kearney Public Schools in Nebraska, where his High School Art Teacher Jack Shofstall introduced him to the works of Andrew Wyeth. That exposure has continued to influence his style. He received his Bachelor of Arts in K-12 Art Education from Kearney State College where he worked under the supervision of exceptional professors like Jon Dinsmore, Elmer Holzricher, Jack Karraker, Keith Lowry, Larry Peterson, and Ray Schultz. Upon graduation he immediately began teaching in the public school systems. In addition, he earned a Masters in Art Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
He has actively supported the visual arts in the Kearney community with happenings such as Art in the Park, which he Directed for a number of years. After 30 combined years in Art Education at Amherst and Kearney, Garringer left education to pursue a full-time studio art career. His work has been awarded recognition in numerous shows across the state as well as Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin. He works out of his home studio and gallery located Northwest of Kearney NE.
